NOEL DEJA 49 MUERTOS EN REPUBLICA DOMINICANA Y HAITÌ

Las lluvias continúan azotando a La Española y no dan respiro a los equipos de rescate .

La cifra de muertos por el paso de Noel por República Dominicana y Haití sigue en aumento. Las autoridades dominicanas han confirmado hoy que la tormenta tropical ha dejado 41 muertos y 20 desaparecidos, mientras que en Haití se han recuperado ocho cadáveres tras las intensas lluvias que han dejado a miles de personas damnificadas.


En Cuba, por su parte, la tormenta obligó ayer a la evacuación de más de 3.000 personas y ha dejado a varias poblaciones incomunicadas por el desborde de algunos ríos.

Según la Oficina Nacional de Meteorología de República Dominicana, las lluvias continuarán durante las próximas 24 a 36 horas, debido a una nueva onda tropical que sigue el rastro de Noel. A pesar, de que la intensidad de las precipitaciones es menor, está complicando las labores de rescate y reubicación de los más de 50.000 evacuados.

La oficina metereológica dominicana mantiene el aviso de inundación para los residentes en las zonas bajas y en las proximidades de ríos, arroyos y cañadas en varias provincias del sur, especialmente en la provincia de Santo Domingo, donde está la capital.

En tanto, Noel sigue su camino y según ha informado el Centro Nacional de Huracanes de Estados Unidos, ha aumentado su intensidad al emerger por la costa norte de Cuba hacia las aguas del Atlántico. Según las proyecciones, se dirige a Bahamas, donde permanece en vigor un aviso de tormenta tropical para el centro y noroeste de las islas.

Durante la temporada de huracanes en el Atlántico, que comenzó el 1 de junio y concluye el 30 de noviembre, se han formado 14 tormentas y cuatro ciclones, dos de los cuales han alcanzado la categoría 5, la máxima en la escala de intensidad Saffir-Simpson.
